The Australian Senate is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of Australia, the lower house being the House of Representatives. The composition and powers of the Senate are established in Chapter I, Part II of the Australian Constitution. There are a total of 8 senators: 1 senator is elected from each of the six states (regardless of population) and two from each of the two autonomous internal territories (the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory). Senators are popularly elected under the proportional representation.
In AustraliaSim specifically, Senators are elected out of a national pool of voters through party-list proportional representation. They then choose which state or territory do they represent under, mimicking the process for a smaller community.
AustraliaSim adheres to a quota of <math>1+\frac{\text{total votes}}{1+\text{total seats}}</math> when apportioning members.[1] This is the Droop quota. See wikipedia:Largest remainder method#Quotas for more information.
